Welcome to Dystopia Rising!

We’re so excited to welcome you to the end of the world! Dystopia Rising is a Live Action Role-Play, granting a glimpse into the Apocalypse. Our community brings together people from LARP, tabletop, cosplay, airsoft, video gaming, and more. You leave yourself at the in woods and take on life as a character you've created, experiencing a brand new world. You'll meet people from near and far, people who live down the street, people who live on the other side of the planet; Dystopia Rising is spreading all over! Navigate the fallen world around you with other characters, take part in intense, incredible scenes, and maybe learn some things about yourself along the way.

HERE ARE THE FIRST THINGS YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW FOR THE APOCALYPSE.

First of all, don't worry about being new.  Everyone had a first event. Our community and team members are patient and ready to lend a helping hand. Dystopia Rising, or “DR” as our fans usually call it, is a role playing game and a multimedia experience.  DR is a tabletop game where you get a group of friends together for a shared story telling experience.  DR is also a series of novels that you can read and enjoy.  If you are interested in either of these, you can find more information about the tabletop game and the novel series by following the Genre Information link, or, by going to the parent publication company’s website: Eschaton Media.  Beyond those two basic ways to enjoy Dystopia Rising, there is one last and most famous way: Dystopia Rising is also a weekend-long networked LARP.

Dystopia Rising is a post-apocalypse survival scenario where you will come to reside in one of the settlements of survivors for a weekend.  During that weekend you will get to do amazing things. Experience and influence an economy, save the life of a total stranger, vanquish the undead, (boffer) fight, and even be the villian. It's a good way to enjoy stepping away from the modern day.  

Because this is a Networked game, you will be able to take your character from your local game to other games.  Our official games all follow the same guidelines and use our centralized character database software to keep track of your character’s growth no matter which game you are visiting.  So if you find yourself traveling near or far from your own home game, you can bring your character to a local Dystopia Rising game and meet thousands of friends you never knew you had.  

What To Bring

Here is a list of items we recommend bringing with you to a Dystopia Rising event. This list is not all inclusive, but this is a good start. You are the best judge of your own comfort and needs.  Please consider what additional items you need to take care of yourself, and set the scene for your own sleeping area. 

STAFF ITEMS

Signed Release Form (available on site), Game Fee (cash or card), Pen.

TOILETRIES

Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Dental Floss, Shampoo, Sun Screen, Bug Repellent, Deodorant, Prescription Medications (please register any medical needs with the Directors), Towel, Flip-Flops for the Shower.

BASICS

NPC Clothes (black or dark), Low Strength Red Light Flashlight, Hiking Safe Drinking Vessel, Plates and Cutlery, Sani-Wipes, Change of Clothes For Weather, Packets/Foam Darts (as needed), Contact Safe Weapons.  

SLEEPING GEAR

Cot (Bed space is first come first serve after your third event), Sleeping Bag, Blankets, Pillows

COSTUME

You'll see so many costumes at Dystopia Rising! All shapes and sizes, with an array of materials. We want you to look awesome, but also be safe! Make sure your costume is not only safe for running, jumping, crashing through the woods, slipping in mud and swinging combat-safe weapons, but also rugged and non-sentimental. There is no doubt that at some point during a Dystopia Rising event you could end up with fake blood on you and some fake blood stains on your clothes. Do not bring or wear anything to Dystopia Rising that you would be heartbroken to find damaged, stained, or destroyed. Dystopia Rising is not responsible for the safety of your property if it is broken or stolen. Lastly, bringing expensive, delicate, or meaningful items is a recipe for disaster.

WEAPON PROP

Whether you're a gun slinger, brawler, or melee fighter, you will want to bring a contact-safe prop with you.
